THAT’S THE TICKET: Seven gigs we can’t wait for in 2020

Well it certainly was a massive year for gigs this year with the likes of Scene and Heard, This That, The Beats, Kiss almost making it to Newy, and Kylie Minogue wowing Hunter audiences.

And 2020 looks to be even bigger and better with some truly great gigs in the offing – an eclectic array of acts guaranteed to satiate even the most cynical gig pig.

So, here are just seven – a mere drop in the ocean – of the gigs that we can’t wait to see in 2020!

Under The Southern Stars
Sunday 19 April – Foreshore Park

If you are a fan 0f ’90s rock – especially of the grunge bent, you’re going to be in gig heaven with the 2020 iteration of Under The Southern Stars.

When you’ve got such heavy hitters as Stone Temple Pilots, Bush and Live bringing their weighty catalogues to bear on Novocastrian ears, it’s pretty much a free-kick that this one is going to be a doozy.

Add OZ pub rock icons Rose Tattoo and Melbourne rockers Electric Mary into the mix and you’ve got yourself a killer festival, buddy!

Cold Chisel
Saturday 18 January – Hope Estate

Cold Chisel

You can’t talk Aussie music without mentioning these absolute giants. And Jimmy and co are well and truly back at the top of their game with their chart-busting ninth studio album Blood Moon.

Hearing Jimmy Barnes and Ian Moss hit those glorious harmonies is worth the price of admission alone, not to mention their swag of genre-defining classics and the inclusion of Birds of Tokyo and Busby Marou.

Friday 24 – Sunday 26 April – Dashville

Featuring literally more acts than you can poke a stick at, the 2020 iteration of everyone’s favourite cosmic country weekender promises to be an absolute doozy with the likes of The Church, Harts Plays Hendrix, Steve Smyth, and Dyson Stringer Chloher, how can you go wrong?

The Growlers
Thursday 9 January – 48 Watt Street

The Growlers

Hailing from LA, The Growlers nine albums straddle surf, pop, rock and beat stylings earning them the rather intriguing title of Beach Goth.

Having seen these guys a few years back (at the former Small Ballroom site) this writer can attest to The Growlers awesomeness on stage.

Okilly Dokilly
Thursday 13 February – Cambridge Hotel

Okilly Doklilly

A band that revolves around the cult of everybody’s favourite neighbourino?

Yes, please. Take out dollarydoos!

Spiegeltent Newcastle
Thursday 26 March – Sunday 19 April

Spiegeltent Newcastle

If you have witnessed the opulent spectacle that is Spiegeltent Newcastle, then you’d know this is always one of the hottest tickets in town.

2020 promises to be no exception with the return of the highly popular Blanc De Blanc circus cabaret along with the likes of Effie, Judith Lucy, and Joel Creasey bringing the laughs.

Lenny Kravitz
Monday 6 April – Newcastle Entertainment Centre

Lenny Kravitz

We can’t wait until Lenny lets love rule in Newy.

This will be the first time that this unabashed rock and roll God has played this part of the world and thankfully he’ll be hitting the Ent Cent for an anticipated Bluesfest Sideshow.

Thanks for going our way, Lenny, we hope it ain;’ over ’til it’s over!
