This is an incredibly challenging time for so many people. The hospitality, tourism, music and entertainment industries have been hit hard.
We are buoyed by the amazing ways in which Newcastle businesses have adapted and innovated. And so quickly. The delicious delivery and take-away offers are amazing. And most importantly, the care and support that small businesses are showing other operators and the broader community is heartfelt and heart-warming.
But unfortunately, this time will prove too much for some. And after an amazing ten years – ten years of bringing delicious paella, octopus, churros and satisfied smiles to the Newcastle food scene, Bocados Spanish Kitchen has closed its doors. For good.
It would seem that the compounding impact of the interruptions to Newcastle CBD access and the coronavirus has meant that owner and head chef, Raul Cabrera, had no choice but to make this difficult decision.
We want to thank Raul, his lovely wife Innes and their staff for bringing fantastic Spanish cuisine to Newcastle – we will forever have fond memories, stretching back to the tiny, original restaurant on King Street. And for the fellow Bocados aficionados out there, here are some dishes to remember them by.
