Tex Perkins & The Dark Horses will be showcasing tracks from their new album, Tunnel At The End Of The Light at Lizotte’s on Saturday July 18.

The Dark Horses gently bubbling sonics gurgle underneath spacious rhythms, sweetly simple repetitive guitars, lush backing harmonies and brooding bass lines. The dynamics and contrasts are vast, one moment you’re in an insomniacs bedroom the next you’re in the clouds.

We spoke to guitarist Joel Silbersher about the recording and the live show they’re bringing to Lizotte’s in July.

Were the ‘Everyone’s Alone’ recording sessions done live or was it more of a multi tracking affair? And why did you guys choose to record this way?

IT WAS GREAT HOW MUCH WAS JUST DONE ON-THE-SPOT. WE WERE ALL AMAZED WITH HOW MANY ALL-IN FIRST OR SECOND TAKES THAT YOU’D HEAR BACK AND GO ‘That’s pretty much exactly how that should go!’ OBVIOUSLY SOME SHIT WAS ADDED OR FIXED BUT GENERALLY IT JUST SOUNDS LIKE US BLOKES PLAYING IN ROGER’S TINY ROOMS.
What sort of guitars and effects can we hear you playing with on the album?

Charlie’s Tele Deluxe is not a secret weapon and my Les Paul Standard and Murray’s ancient Martin acoustic…but honestly, with this talent at the ready? It’s gotta sound beautiful whatever you use. I know Angus’ snare sounds deeper than usual but you’d have to ask him about that. Electric pianny and real pianny and Vox and Fender Reverb amps are involved as are some cheap pedals made by Boss and MXR but I…I’m having a little blank here. No one must steal our magic! We are hoping, one day, to be like Josh Homme and say ‘How dare you give enough of a shit to Instagram my pedalboard?! Big Male! Confiscate this dick’s camera and banish him or her from our sold out concerts forever!’
Do you think “the album” is still a valid product in a digital market?

TELL YOU IN DECEMBER

Pre gig: Beer, wine or spirits?

SPIRITS, WATER, WINE, BEER, CRAPPY SANDWICHES AND ANCIENT FRUIT AND… What else are you offering?
