Tell your tale in the Newcastle Iso Short Story Challenge

Are you a budding or established wordsmith looking for an isolation challenge.

Well, we here at Newcastle Live are throwing down the gauntlet with the Newcastle Iso Short Story Challenge.

If you think you could give Tim Winton a run for his money or that Hemingway could have used a better editor then read on!

The Competition

The Newcastle Iso Short Story challenge is all about showing off your creativity as well as a love for this awesome city.

We are asking you to submit an engaging short story, between 500 and 1500 words set in Newcastle.

However, to make things a little more interesting, stories MUST include the following elements:

  • A well-known Newcastle location
  • A Newcastle “celebrity”
  • Hand sanitiser

We will be publishing entries on Newcastle Live and a panel of judges including Newcastle author Nick Milligan, Newcastle Writer’s Festival founder Rosemarie Milsom, and Newcastle Live publisher Steven Pickett will pick the top three entries which will be in line for a $100 book voucher at McLean’s Booksellers.

The Nitty Gritty

The Newcastle Iso Short Story challenge is open to anyone aged 18 and up. Entries must be submitted in .doc, .docx or.pdf form and emailed to by no later than 5pm on Wednesday 10 June

Winners will be announced on Wednesday 17 June.
