Recently awarded the Female Rockabilly Artist of the Year in Memphis, Tammi Savoy is coming all the way from the Windy City to tour Australia for the very first time. Tammi brings her powerful, soulful voice to Lizotte’s Newcastle, next Thursday 11 July.
Imagine a young woman nailing the classic 40’s, 50s and early 60s R&B and rock and roll sounds. Match that with drop-dead gorgeous looks and a perfect visual adherence to mid-century vintage style.
Now combine her with killer rockabilly instrumentation of slapping upright bass, swinging drums and virtuoso guitar, add a set of songs that combine classics from the likes of Ruth Brown, Laverne Baker and Esther Phillips with great originals and you’ve got Tammi Savoy and The Chris Casello Combo.
On guitar, Chris Casello is a veteran of Detroit, Nashville and Chicago music scenes. He is a second generation inductee to The Rockabilly Hall of Fame, and has enjoyed long working relationships with ‘50s greats including Johnny Powers, Jack Scott, Billy Lee Riley, and the truly legendary Bo Diddley.
Chris has also worked professionally with Wanda Jackson, Wayne Hancock, Marty Stuart, Rosie Flores, Carlene Carter and others.
Dancers please take note, Tammy Savoy and The Chris Casello Combo will be sure to get you in the mood and there’ll be plenty of room to cut a rug!
