For the last fourteen years local artist, Gerant Kenneth has been throwing the title of tallJENNY on a stack of diverse endeavours, including his Song-a-week project.
Now tallJENNY has morphed into a band of musicians who’ve come together from all over the local live music scene and they’ll be playing some gigs before the end of the year.
โtallJENNY is a jack of all trades and a master of none,โ Gerant said.
“Itโs probably best we stick to what tallJENNY is for this particular moment in time.”
If you’ve been around local live venues long enough you would have seen Gerant on stage with Newcastle acts Schlauncher, Elephant and NOT! And if Youtube’s more your thing, you’ve possibly seen Gerant cracking up phone sales staff with his Telemarketer Pranks.
But now Gerant is focused on a couple of tallJENNY gigs that are happening before the end of the year and the Hamilton Station Hotel and the Gallipoli Legion Club.
These shows will see Gerant joined by long time collaborator Nathan Field, Strength to Strength’s Sean McGinty, Dastardly Undertakers’ Paul Doolan.
Gerant says that these shows will feature an array of material, from sweet pop melodies to apocalyptic rhythms.
“Songs that would usually land not far from the rock genre performed through piano and organ melodies. Trumpets will wail, screaming strings will tear through solos and never is a sound or style reused or repurposed,” he says.
You can grab a ticket to see tallJENNY on Saturday 27 November at the Hamilton Station Hotel with local steel guitar trio The High Andies and East Coast Low. The band will then hit the Gallipoli Legion Club on Thursday 2 December with House of Refuge and Heddyโs Revenge as part of the FAD sessions.
