The Surfboard Swap Meet will be held in The Edwards industrial garage on Saturday 21st of November from 11 am – 5pm. Like a fine bottle of wine, The right type of surfboard, with desirable pedigree and having been stored correctly, can fetch upward of $20,000. No joke!
While it is unlikely you have that particular board stored in your garage, there is every chance there could be another nugget of surf craft gold harboured in its far reaches. If you are interested in selling you board, registration is open from 10:30am and the good fellows from Slimes will give you a professional appraisal and then do their best to sell if for you.
The event will also feature great food, live music, big screen surf movies, minor onsite ding repairs, live art and a photographic exhibition documenting Newcastleโs surfing community. There will also be the chance to do a spot of christmas shopping at the hand full of specially curated stalls, showcasing the creativity and innovation of Newcastleโs local and independent surf industry.
There will be a chance to talk boards with Mark Richards on the day, perhaps over a refreshing schooner from Byron Bay brewing company Stone & Wood. Richards has been a long time ambassador for the Hunter arm of Sids and Kids, a non for profit organisation that helps children and families dealing with loss. A small percentage of each board sale will be going to the charity along with the proceeds from the first 2 Stone & Wood kegs and all ticket sales from raffles run though out the day with some top prizes, including a Rip Curl wetsuit and watch.
