Newy noodle boffins Susuru Ramen and Gyoza have hit it out of the park once again in the monthly specials stakes, teaming up with a Mayfield-based culinary institution for a collaboration you never knew you needed.
The popular ramen house has joined forces with the mighty Mayfield West Kebabs & Charcoal Chicken to create the Charcoal Chicken Ramen.
Doing pretty much what it says on the tin, this heady concoction combines the succulent, juicy and downright flavourful charcoal chicken that the Mayfield eatery has become synonymous with, and piping hot, perfectly cooked ramen.
I think the word you’re looking for is ‘yum!’
This bad-boy is based on a shio broth, stacked with fresh noodles and topped off with a zesty lemon juice, parsley, a medley of marinated cherry tomatoes and, of course, that crisp-yet-tender charcoal chicken.
The original recipe also called for a burst of tang thanks to some Kiss Peppers, however this dish has proved so popular that hungry diners have ushered in the great Newcastle Kiss Pepper famine of 2021.
Never fear though, heat hounds because the sweet and smoky flavours a piquillo peppers serve as a more than adequate replacement.
If you’re keen to see what all the fuss is about, its probably best you don’t rest on your laurels because this red hot ramen is flying out the door. Also, it’s only sticking around until the end of the month so get in now!
Susuru Ramen and Gyoza is located at 140 King Street, Newcastle. Head here for more information and to order.
