Surfest 2019 is shaping up to be the biggest event yet! And we’re not just talking about what’s happening in the water. Check out the full schedule of events below.

Port Stephens Toyota Wildcard Trials
This year’s event kicks off in the amazing Port Stephens with the Toyota Wildcard Trials. Don’t miss this exciting event!
9th – 10th February
Lake Mac City Pro Junior – WSL JQS 1000 men and women
The inaugural Lake Mac City Pro Junior will be held on Redhead beach on Saturday 9th to Sunday 10th February 2019. The event will attract male and female competitors from all over Australia and internationally. This long running Surfest event provides a great opportunity for the Hunter’s best up-and-coming surfers to compete in an international event and experience competition at the highest level.
23rd – 24th February
Orica Teams Challenge
The 2019 Orica Team Challenge is open to all surfboard clubs in Australia. The event will be held at Stockton Beach on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th February 2019. The contest will again have clubs competing for $10,000 in prize money.
Sacred Tree Community Markets featuring arts, crafts, music, food
Featuring an ever-evolving line up of live musicians, street food, cultural displays & entertainment within a retail festival environment, Sacred Tree Markets is back again!

Go Kindy High Schools Team Challenge
There’s nothing like team vs team.
Westfield Kotara University Team Challenge
The Westfield Kotara Uni Team Challenge is hosted by Surfest 2019 in collaboration with Newcastle University Sport and is open to all Australian Universities. This is a one-day event is a round-robin type format. Each team will surf four rounds (heats) during the day. Universities may enter multiple teams, however a maximum of 12 teams may
contest the event.
9th – 10th March
Sanbah Cadet Cup presented by University of Newcastle
The 2019 Sanbah Surf Cadet Boys presented by the University of Newcastle will run at South Bar Beach, Newcastle on Saturday 9th and Sunday the 10th March 2019. The Cadet Cup is a great opportunity for young, emerging male and female surfers to gain invaluable contest experience.
Burton Automotive Pro International Trials
This is one of the biggest events on the Surfest calendar.

Burton Automotive Pro WSL QS6000
The 2019 Burton Automotive Pro is a Men’s World Surf League (WSL) 6000 event with the prize money totalling US$120 000. The event will be held at Merewether beach, Newcastle NSW on 11th to 17th March 2019.

Holmes Civil Developments Women’s Pro WSL QS6000
Surfest Organiser Warren Smith said, “The unique process of funding women’s professional surfing only happens in Newcastle and is a real tribute to the Novocastrian spirit. As this is the 4th year of our Surfest Women’s Pro crowdfunding we are extremely delighted to welcome Ben and Barbara Holmes of Holmes Civil Developments as our 2019 Surfest Women’s Pro sponsor.
Evolution Corporate Charity teams Cup for Mark Hughes Foundation
The 2019 Evolution Charity Cup will comprise 20 teams made up of employees or business connections of registered companies plus one wild card surfer. Each team will undertake fundraising to help achieve an overall target donation of $100,000 to the Mark Hughes Foundation.
‘Barrelled’ Food and Wine Fair
BARRELLED Wine, Beer and Food Festival is coming to Merewether Beach on 16 and 17 March.
We’ve got you hillside at Merewether Beach, on the finals weekend of #SURFEST2019, sipping wine, craft beer and devouring delish’ dishes, served up by some of our region’s leading producers. Pack up your friends and picnic blankets, and taste your way through the best of what’s on offer from our backyard.
Come for one day or two – entry is free, and tastings are by a glass & voucher system.
The Drop Festival – music festival
Back for its second year running, The Drop Festival returns in 2019 bigger and better than before and this time dropping in on Surfest Saturday on 16th March, Newcastle.
The Drop takes place alongside the three Australian World Surf League Championship Tour events at Snapper Rocks on the Gold Coast, Bells Beach in Torquay & Margaret River in WA – with two exciting additional stops WSL Qualifying Series events at Surfest Newcastle & the Vissla Sydney Surf Pro in Manly.
Presented by triple j, the line-up for The Drop 2019 includes some of the country’s biggest names in music.
