DOUBLE HAPPINESS: Sukimama to host dumpling workshop and pop up at Newcastle Art Gallery

Ever wanted to learn the finer points of dumpling making?

Well, now you can do just that thanks to Newcastle Art Gallery and Sukimama.

The popular Korean-style catering business, whose little parcels of happiness were voted Newcastle’s best in our 2019 dumplings poll, has teamed up with the Gallery for its next Last Fridays event.

Aptly dubbed Last Fridays: Double Happiness, the event will see Sukimama’s Suki Kwon teach the finer points of dumpling creation – letting you in on some of her best-kept secrets in what promises to be one heck of a moreish cooking demonstration!

If that wasn’t enough, after the demo, Suki will be kicking off a pop-up out the front of the gallery where she will be selling some of her finest dumpling creations – king prawn, vegan, chicken and chive, and pork and beef, alongside a range of Suki’s very own and ridiculously flavourful sauces.

We were lucky enough to sample some of these creations last week and can confirm these dumplings are next level!

Given that a Sukimama pop up is something of a rare treat, expect these morsels to go like, well, hot dumplings.

With your senses suitably tingled downstairs, they will be given a complete overhaul upstairs thanks to soundscape adventurists The Digital Shamans.

The creative and immersive musical experience this crew of award-winning artists creates has been described as being akin to a digital ayahuasca encounter and promises to lead you through a visual, meditative experience.

You can stay for the whole set or drop in and out of blind-folded immersive ‘contemplations’, throat singing and instrumentals tuned to cymatic (the study of visual sound and vibration) frequencies based on 432 Hz.

Oh and finally, there will also be a DIY felt fortune cookie crafting session, a pop-up bar featuring Tsingtao beer AND all profits from the Sukimama pop-up will be donated to animal rescue organisation WIRES.

Last Fridays: Double Happiness kicks off from 5pm (with the Sukimama workshop and pop-up bar) on Friday 31 January. No bookings are required.
