Local band STOMP will headline a free celebration of homegrown music when MAP mima Rocks takes over Speers Point Park this Saturday, 26 September.
Kicking off at 3pm at the Multi-Arts Pavilion, mima, the all-ages festival will bring together five bands from the region for a show that aims to give emerging acts a stage while giving local music lovers a chance to discover their next favourite band.
Thomas Gagliano-Buckley says playing live with his band STOMP is about more than entertaining a crowd. The band has already had a big year, winning YouthRock whose alumni include Silverchair, Alex Lloyd and Hayley Warner. They also performed their debut single at Star Struck with the backing of a full orchestra.
STOMP will close out the festival with a 50-minute headline set.
Joining them on the bill are Glycerine, Smacked Youth, The Janes and Empress, with DJ Big Rex spinning tunes between acts.
Lake Macquarie City Council Manager Arts, Culture and Tourism Jacqui Hemsley said nurturing that creativity and connection was central to the event.
“MAP mima Rocks is about creating opportunities for emerging musicians to perform in a professional setting while connecting with new audiences.”
Food trucks and licensed bar facilities will be available on site, and punters are encouraged to bring picnic rugs and low-back chairs.
