FULL STEAM AHEAD: Organisers turn their attention to Steamfest 2021

Maitland City Council has made the difficult decision to cancel Steamfest this year rather than postpone. Organisers now say they will turn their attention to making next year’s event “extraordinary”.

The return of  4-6-2 steam locomotive 3801 had many looking forward to this year’s celebration of steam-powered trains. However, the council say that due to the fluid nature of the required response to COVID- 19, they chose not postpone to a later date.

“Whilst we all acknowledge this is a necessary step, it doesn’t make it any easier for the hundreds of people, and thousands of visitors, that are involved with the organisation of Steamfest or look forward to coming to the event each year.” a statement on their website reads.

The 2021 event will see the festival celebrate its 35th-anniversary.
