Spiegelworld, the company behind the highly successful EMPIRE, will open its Australian run of its smash-hit Las Vegas show ABSINTHE in Newcastle next year.
Inspired by the absinthe-drenched cabarets of late 19th-century Europe, ABSINTHE will open in Newcastle on February 17 2015, in a 700-seat antique spiegeltent, furnished with bevelled mirrors, plush velvet seating booths and a well-stocked bar.
Described as an adult-themed cocktail of circus, burlesque and vaudeville for a 21st century audience, ABSINTHE will feature several of the outstanding acts currently featured in the Las Vegas production with some additional new surprises. The show, performed in the round with unobstructed sightline,s brings its audience in intimate proximity of the world-class artists performing amazing feats of strength, balance, danger and unfathomable flexibility.
Spiegelworld came to life in New York City in the summer of 2006. At its core is a unique venue, a heritage 300-seat Belgian spiegeltent. Popular across Europe during the early 20th century, the luxurious travelling spiegeltents were used as dance halls and music/cabaret venues, featuring intimate in-the-round seating, ornate wooden panelling, mirrors, stained-glass windows, and velvet-upholstered seating booths.
