Organisers, the Newcastle Live Music Taskforce, say the free all-ages event will celebrate five decades of Newcastle music with an all-local lineup.
The bill is a diverse mix of acts featuring Spy V Spy, DV8, Eat Your Heart Out, The Porkers, The Blues Bombers, Grace Turner, Amy Vee, Turpentine Babycino, Kookshill, WELL?, House of Refuge, Phoenix Pritchard and Piper Butcher.
Newcastle MP Tim Crakanthorp said Sound Station, which will be held at The Station on the corner of Scott and Watt Street in Newcastle, would be an opportunity to showcase Newcastle’s vibrant and diverse musical talent, while at the same time encouraging Novocastrians to support the live music scene, local CBD businesses and the night-time economy post-COVID.
“Newcastle has an amazing music community, so I’m really excited to see everyone come together for this festival. Newcastle is renowned for great events and Sound Station will be no exception,” he said.
Newcastle Lord Mayor and Newcastle Live Music Taskforce member Nuatali Nelmes said City of Newcastle was also in support of the event.
“City of Newcastle is proud to sponsor the Sound Station Music & Arts Festival under Special Business Rates funding,” Cr Nelmes said.
“City of Newcastle is committed to supporting community events like Sound Station Music & Arts Festival. The Festival will provide a much-needed economic boost to small business and the city’s live music and cultural sector, by employing local artists and local organisations to run and be in the event whilst driving foot traffic to surrounding local businesses.”
The Sound Station Music & Arts Festival will take over The Station in Newcastle on Sunday, 28 August 2022. There is no cost to attend the event, but a free ticket from StickyTickets.com.au is required for entry. Visit soundstationfestival.com for more information.
