So as well as writing the words for Newcastle Live, I also spend a whole bunch of time hanging out over at Triple J Unearthed, looking for the best up and coming artists and writing some words about the latest and greatest of Australian music.
Because finding great music is so much more than pointing out who has the best production, or the greatest access to recording resources, it’s about the passionate pursuit of something much bigger. Missy Higgins for example wrote ‘All for Believing’ at 15 for a school assignment, and her sister uploaded the track to the Unearthed Website on her behalf. Someone heard the original demo, and saw the potential and promise of someone who is now one of Australia’s most respected and celebrated singer/songwriters. That’s exactly why I love being a part of that community. It’s about talking with like minded people, and getting excited about that first ever demo, and knowing just a snippet of what is to come. You don’t have to be a music writer to jump on and start reviewing your favourite tracks either, you just have to be passionate about really great Australian music.
Recently, myself and a handful of other Super users including Newcastle’s own Spencer Scott, got together to pen some thoughts about our favourite Unearthed Uploads of the year, and local singer/songwriter Grace Alberhart made the list! Check out the full article below.
