Scottish rockers Simple Minds have announced that their upcoming Oz tour this November and December has been pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
But never fear, fans, because the Don’t You Forget About Me hitmakers have promised to hit the Hunter in December 2021.
“The frustration of seeing yet more live shows being rescheduled is huge. We are determined to make even more effort for our fans in Australia and New Zealand. In the meantime, we ask all of you to keep your tickets – and keep the faith. We guarantee our live shows will be worth the extra wait,” frontman Jim Kerr said.
The band will play A Day on The Green at Bimbadgen Estate on Saturday 11 December 2021 with support from Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (OMD) and Aussie legends The Eurogliders.
The band are touring in celebration of 40: The Best Of – 1979-2019, a new 40-song collection marking their 40th anniversary.
Australia gave Simple Minds their first hit single in Love Song, and their first gold album, New Gold Dream (81–82–83–84). A string of awards and more unforgettable hits followed, including Promised You A Miracle, Let There Be Love, Alive and Kicking, Sanctify Yourself, Belfast Child and the aforementioned Don’t You Forget About Me.
Jim Kerr said he looks back fondly on the band’s decades-long love affair with Australia, beginning with their first Down Under tour in 1981.
“I cannot tell you how much fun we had during that six-week period,” he said. “Going from nobodies to overnight success due to our appearance on Countdown. People were screaming for us to play encores. We’ve always had a wonderful bond with Australian audiences.”
Catch Simple Minds, OMD and The Eurogliders at Bimbadgen on Saturday 11 December 2021.
