Short film fest aims to raise funds for clean drinking water in Bali

While COVID-19 has grounded all flights from Newcastle to Bali, those still itching for an island escape can still get their fix on the big screen.

Newcastle-based not-for-profit Corethics is presenting its third annual film fundraising event next month – the RealOzInd! Short Film Festival.

The competition/festival will showcase short works from Indonesian and Australian filmmakers and all proceeds from the event will go towards supporting clean access to water in Bali.

The film screening will be preceded by a ‘Water Talk’ giving event attendees an opportunity to learn more about what Corethics does and why IDEP Foundation’s Bali Water Protection Program solves the water crisis issue faced by the Balinese.

“Tourism accounts for around 65% of the water use in Bali and us Aussies are in the top three most frequent flyers to the Island of the Gods,” Corethics founder Melissa McCabe said.

“For all those Novocastrians who have had the pleasure of visiting Bali, now is the time for us to give back. During a global pandemic access to clean water has never been more important”

In 2016, Corethics discovered the harrowing reality that 60% of Bali’s water table was declared dried. Since then, the team at Corethics has been supporting IDEP’s Bali Water Protection Program to assist in addressing depleting water supplies – recharge wells and much-needed education.

All event tickets include a donation to IDEP’s Bali Water Protection Program.

The RealOzINd Short Film Festival will be on at Event Cinemas Kotara on Saturday 24 October. Head here for tickets and more information.
