Secret Book Stuff are all about community, encouraging a love of literature, and creating a little more magic in the world. What better way to do that of course, than with a free lending library in the heart of this great city?
So what’s a lending library?
Basically it works on an honour system, whereby community members ‘take a book, leave a book’. Yes, it really is as simple as that. There is no catch or hidden agenda. It’s all about giving the community access to books, as well as giving the books you’re willing to part with, a brand new, and very loving home.
So where is this magical lending library/special home for books?
Why the old Newcastle Station of course! – Shop 3a to be exact. Say what you want about the tram, and the train line, and everything in between, but the revitalisation of the city centre is happening, and is very much in full swing.
So when is this magical Secret Book Stuff lending library open?
The grand opening of this amazing community initiative is on the 27th of April – this Saturday for those playing at home!
Who else can I see and what can I expect?
If you haven’t visited the Newcastle Station in a little while, prepare to be surprised to say the least. The space is open, inviting, and quite honestly looks amazing. Secret Book Stuff is also in very good company, with neighbours like Makespace – a creative community full of makers and shakers, and Peaceful Minds Project – a yoga and meditation studio run by the ever amazing Emily Sorensen.
So what’s the secret?
As well as a lending library, Secret Book Stuff will be opening up a bookshop on the 26th of May. Excitement x infinity.
