It’s certainly been a barren featureless desert for us gig pigs in 2020, but thankfully (and with a big slap on the nearest piece of wood) as restrictions continue to ease, live performances are starting to become a thing again.
We’re certainly making hay while the sun shines here n NSW with Great Southern Nights – an awesome initiative to bring 1000 COVID-safe gigs to venues across the state this month.
Our neck of the woods has not been left out, either, with more top-quality shows than you can poke a stick at.
One show that is piquing our interest here at Newcastle Live is kicking off on Friday 6 November at Warners Bay Theatre featuring ARIA award-winning songwriter Shane Nicholson and on-the-rise Central Coast trio Little Quirks
Shane first hit the scene back in the heady days of 1997 fronting the band Pretty Violet Stain who released a brilliant EP Blush and a couple of singles before disbanding at the turn of the century.
He then moved into solo territory with his 2002 album It’s A Movie and, after his second album Faith and Science hit the stratosphere with his 2008 collab with ex-wife Kasey Chambers Rattlin’ Bones with debuted at number one on the ARIA charts as well as nabbing an ARIA and five Golden Guitars.
Following up with the equally brilliant solo efforts Familiar Ghosts and Bad Machines and a second collaboration with Kasey in Wreck and Ruin established Shane as one of the best songwriters in the country.
This trend has continued with subsequent releases Hell Breaks Loose and Love and Blood
When it comes to fining an act to kick off a show such as this, Little Quirks seem almost purpose-built for the occasion.
After stunning all and sundry earlier this year with their debut EP Cover My Eyes this familial Central Coast-based trio hit it out of the park again last month with the release of their gorgeous single Florence’s Town
Catch Shane Nicholson and Little Quirks at Warners bay Theatre on Friday 6 November. Head here for tickets.
