The Village People knew it. Kelis knew it. Kalyn Ponga DEFINITELY knew it. Milkshakes in Newcastle are awesome.

As those wintry months give way to sunnier seasons, there is nothing quite like whiling away a few hours at your fave cafe or strolling around town with a delicious shake in your hands.

Novocastrian’s love of the shake was more than evident when we recently asked, on Facebook, where to get the best examples in this wonderful town.

The answers and opinions came thick and fast on this one and without any further ado, here are the top five Milkshakes in Newcastle, as voted by you!

1. Jim’s Dairy Delite Bar

79 Tudor St, Hamilton
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Jims-Milk-bar/134424789939659

Even if the headline wasn’t a clue it should come as no surprise that this Hamilton icon should find itself at the top of this list.

The famed milk shakery has been tempting tastebuds for generations now and the love displayed by you on our poll was palpable.

These are ‘old school’ milkshakes of the highest order and apparently, many of you were taken with Jim’s Blue Heaven and Spearmint varieties.

If you haven’t been to Jim’s for a Milkshakes in Newcastle, are you even a Novocastrian?

2. Greg And Audrey’s

2/32 Victory Parade, Toronto
https://www.facebook.com/gregandaudreys/

While we haven’t ventured out to this Lake Macquarie gem, apparently the shakes coming out of Greg and Audrey’s are ‘da bomb’.

One quick peruse through their socials and you’re confronted with a literal cornucopia of colourful, creamy and curious ice cream creations so it’s little wonder that their milkshakes are awesome.

Oh and the hot tip from you folks s to grab a peppermint crisp, redskin or Nutella shake.

Duly noted.

3. Claire’s Cupcakes

34/338 Charlestown Road, Charlestown
https://www.facebook.com/clairescupcakes100vegan/

There was also a lot of love for this Charlestown-based cupcake spot which, evidently also does quite the mean shake.

Just look at the above photo and tell us that you don’t want to dive, head-first into one of these gloriously sweet creations.

4. Three Monkeys

131 Darby Street, Cooks Hill
https://www.facebook.com/threemonkeyscafe/

If you’re on Darby Street and find yourself suddenly struck by a shake craving, Three Monkeys is definitely the place to be,

This cafe’s chocolate shake is a favourite of this writer, but their vanilla, caramel, strawberry, mocha, coffee/vanilla, Nutella and chai varieties are also sure to tempt.

Oh, and Three Monkeys also has quite a wide range of health shakes, such as the Raw Choc Turmeric (vegan chocolate syrup, turmeric syrup, dates, banana and almond milk.

Yum.

Milkshakes in Newcastle - 23Hundred

4. 23Hundred Cafe

71 Scott Street, Newcastle
https://www.facebook.com/23Hundred-Cafe-161232913917913/

While we are well versed in the quality of the coffee coming out of 23Hundred Cafe in Scott Street, until now, their milkshakes had flown under our radar.

However, that’s all changed now after seeing the number of you voting for this East End gem.

The Scott street location makes it the perfect spot to grab a shake and go and soak up some spring and summer sun at Newy Beach.

Milkshakes in Newcastle - Donut King

5. Donut King

Various locations
https://www.donutking.com.au/

Given the proliferation of quality cafes and milk bars in this berg, seeing Donut King on this list came as a bit of a surprise to us here at Newcastle Live.

But, hey. The heart wants what the heart wants.

If you’re looking for a shake in a hurry during a serious mall-walk or something a little more substantial (Quakeshake, anyone?) Donut King will likely hit the spot.
