The Salvation Army has officially launched its annual Christmas Appeal in Newcastle and the Hunter region, urging local communities to come together and support those facing hardship during the holiday season.

This yearโ€™s appeal comes amid a growing cost-of-living crisis, with more Australians than ever reaching out for assistance.

“Christmas is the busiest time of year for The Salvos, and this year we expect the need in the community to be immense. For many, celebrating Christmas might seem out of reach due to the rising cost of living, with some on the brink of homelessness and others fighting to pay the bills,” The Salvation Army’s External Communications Manager, Major Gary Masters said.

With a national fundraising goal of $27 million, the Christmas Appeal is critical to ensuring that The Salvation Army, also known as The Salvos, can provide essential resources for families in need. Funds raised will support various services and assistance programs, including the distribution of food, gifts, and other essential items.

Community members can support the appeal by volunteering, donating products like toys and food, or making a financial contribution. The Salvos also host festive events to bring the community together and provide moments of joy for families who may otherwise go without during this time of year.
