Multi award-winning comedian Ronny Chieng heads back to Newcastle after he wowed local audiences at last year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow. His, “You Don’t Know What You’re Talking About” show will roll into the Civic Playhouse in Newcastle on Saturday October 31.
In just four years the Malaysian-born Chinese comedian has jettisoned from his first ever gig in a small room at Melbourne Uni, to shows at the Sydney Opera House, Melbourne Town Hall, London’s SOHO Theatre, Montreal’s Just for Laughs TV Gala.
His latest show Chieng tackles the broad topic of idiocy and our inability to say, “I don’t know”. Following a sold out comedy festival season earlier this year which included extra shows to accommodate demand for tickets in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth, the multi-award winning Chieng will now take the show literally on the road. As well as revisiting Sydney and Perth, he’ll also head to Darwin, Geelong, Bendigo, Canberra and Newcastle.
Chieng who is currently performing at the invitation-only Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal before heading to Edinburgh Festival Fringe next month, has just finished a critically acclaimed Comedy Festival season in Australia that saw him selling-out and adding shows in larger venues. He will also perform shows in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur before the return season, and is currently nominated for a 2015 Helpmann Award for Best Comedy Performer which will be announced on July 27.
