Rolling up our sleeves for Clean Up Australia Day

Clean Up Australia is once again rallying Aussies far and wide to come together for Clean Up Australia Day 2024.

Building on the success of last year’s event, which saw an impressive turnout of over 760,000 Australians donning their gloves, organisers are optimistic about an even more remarkable response this year.

The annual event gives everyone from the community a chance to unite, roll up their sleeves and spruce up our their community.

Clean Up Australia Day is the largest volunteer clean up event across the nation each year and the most practical way to educate and demonstrate waste prevention,” Pip Kiernan, Chair of Clean Up Australia, said.

“By rolling up our sleeves and witnessing the sheer quantity as well as the common types of litter lining our streets, bushlands and waterways, we can gain a better insight into our own personal or household footprints on the environment. It encourages each of us to consider practical ways we can prevent that litter in the first place.

“Vapes, cigarette butts, coffee cups and soft plastics are amongst the commonly reported items collected by volunteers who are encouraged at each site to report their findings but you can’t help but be shocked by the scale of what ends up in our environment as litter.”

You can register as an individual or a group. Everyone will receive a complimentary Clean Up kit, complete with essential items such as gloves and bags.

For those unable to participate physically, Clean Up Australia encourages supporting the cause through donations. Every cent raised will directly contribute to empowering Australians to take positive environmental action, ensuring that Clean Up kits are readily available to those who want to make a difference.

Clean Up Australia Day is set to take place on Sunday, March 3. You can register and find out more by visiting cleanup.org.au.
