The popular Wallsend Winter Fair is back again for 2019 and this year promises to be the biggest and best yet!
Now in its 34th year, this popular community festival has become a must-do on the calendars of the people in Newcastle, the Hunter Valley and beyond. With up to 30,000 people descending on Wallsend for a day of free, family fun each year.
What can I expect?
This year, the Fair will kick off at 9am with the Grand Parade, the last of its kind in the district. Applications are now open for local businesses and community groups to fly their creative flag.
Sponsors Wallsend Village are offering prizes (1st – $250 gift card, 2nd – $140 gift card, 3rd – $100 gift card) for the best entrants.
The Grand Parade commences at 9am from Boscawen Street and continues down Nelson Street to Cowper Street and will include as many as 50 entrants.
The day is officially opened at 10am with the winners of the Grand Parade being announced before the day kicks off with a full program of entertainment for the whole family.
Revelers will have the chance to browse to their heart’s content with around 150 specialty stalls and local businesses offering a wide range of unique arts, crafts, gifts, clothing, jewellery and much more.
You can also take a break and enjoy a mouthwatering selection of tempting food from local businesses plus a range of gourmet food vans featuring an array of cuisines.
And, if it’s entertainment you want, there will be a plethora of local musos, school bands, choirs and dance groups performing across three stages. For sports lovers a visit from Newcastle Jets players – courtesy of the Greater Bank – will be a highlight!
Thrill seekers are also well catered for with two, yes, TWO amusement precincts offering exhilarating rides for the whole family.
The Wallsend Winter Fair is on Sunday 11 August and is totally FREE!
