SCHOOL’S OUT: Rock on with The Rubens at the Informal Formal

Indie rockers The Rubens will be sending off Year 12 students in virtual style this month beaming bangers into lounge rooms across the country at the Informal Formal.

Hosted by fried chook purveyor KFC and digital mental health service ReachOut, the Informal Formal is aimed at those Year 12 students who will miss out on or experience a “watered-down” version of the iconic Aussie right of passage – the Year 12 Formal.

So, if you’re a Formal-less Year 12 student or even if you want to reminisce about Formals of days gone by, whack on your snazziest threads and tune in, via the KFC Facebook page at 7pm on Saturday 25 September, for what promises to be one epic gig.

“Looking back at our own formals, it was a moment to enjoy yourself and mark the end of an era at school, and while so many Aussies can’t have their celebrations during this time, we hope this gives them a little bit of a moment to enjoy despite the circumstances,” The Rubens said in a statement.

“We’ll be playing some oldies as well as our newest release Time Of My Life. Tune in, and we’ll tune-up.”

The event also aims to shine a light on the services of ReachOut, encouraging Aussie youth to take a proactive approach to mental health.

“We hope The Informal Formal will give young people across Australia a moment to celebrate but also to check in with themselves and others during a time that can be tough even in non-COVID-19 circumstances,” ReachOut CEO Ashley De Silva said.

“Whatever life throws at you – from exams to isolation, free mental health support is available 24/7 at ReachOut.com.”

KFC is coming to the party, too, offering one lucky student the chance to snag some serious bragging rights by shouting their ENTIRE Year 12 class a slap-up KFC dinner, delivered on the night.

“While nothing can replace attending the formal in person, hopefully, this brings some light relief to Australians across the country during these unusual times,” KFC Australia CMO Kristi Woolrych said.

“We know that live music is a fantastic way to raise spirits and give a bit of a boost and we hope that the Informal Formal can provide a bit of fun to those who are doing it tough – especially the Year 12 students heading into exams.”

Students can enter the comp here from 9am on Monday 21 September until 9pm on Wednesday 23 September.
