Do you yearn for a time when festivals like the Big Day Out and Homebake peppered the Australian summer landscape? That glorious time when everything was just ace while sitting around in Berlin chairs and being jerks of attention?
Well, hang on to your purple sneakers, kid because the Spring Loaded festival is headed to Gosford in October, answering all your nostalgic ’90s indie rock prayers in one fell swoop!
After being forced into hibernation last year, the fest is back with a vengeance in 2021 boasting a bill that reads like a mid-’90s Hottest 100 top five.
With lineups varying across the fest’s nine ports of call from May to November, Gosford will be treated to a day of no foolin’ earworms courtesy of Grinspoon, You Am I, Jebediah, Frenzal Rhomb and Caligula.
Frenzal guitarist and former Triple J raconteur Lindsay “The Doctor” McDougall will also take on MC duties.
“It’s kinda unavoidable that nostalgia surrounds these shows, but the past year I’ve heard new music from most of our friends here that is as vital and visceral as any they’ve done in the past, which makes these potential shows all the more thrilling,” You Am I frontman Tim Rogers said before offering simple words of advice for a perfect Spring Loaded.
“Dress up, turn up, muck up,” he commanded.
Obviously stoked at the opportunity to get the band back together after what was a long 2020 for everyone the world over, Grinspoon’s Phil Jamieson said: “I’m terribly excited to be playing with Grinspoon at Spring Loaded. Since FireFight we have barely stepped on stage, let alone seen each other.”
The Spring Loaded Festival is on at Gosford Entertainment Grounds on Saturday 16 October. Tickets are on sale from Wednesday 24 March at 10am. Head here to grab yours.
