RIVERLIGHTS: Adam Liaw returns as festival ambassador

Maitland Riverlights Festival is set to shine even brighter this year with celebrated chef, author, and broadcaster, Adam Liaw will as the event’s official ambassador.

Known for his victory in the second season of Masterchef Australia and his popular cooking shows on SBS and ABC, Adam will not only a bit of star power to the event in October but also host to a special three-course dinner as part of the festival at Maitland Town Hall.

Born in Malaysia and raised in Australia, Liaw embodies the festival’s celebration of diversity and the event’s theme of cultural appreciation through food, music, dance, and interactive experiences.

“I’m thrilled to be returning to Maitland Riverlights as its ambassador for 2024, an event that celebrates diversity through food, music and culture – all things that are very close to my heart,” Adam said.

“Food unites communities, fosters understanding and creates connections, so I am excited to be part of an event that embodies these values and look forward to sharing in the festivities with everyone.

“Our special dinner event will be a real highlight of the program, where we’re putting together a one-night-only experience to celebrate food, creativity and cultural exchange.”

Now in its second year with an expanded format, Maitland Riverlights has established itself as a vibrant celebration of global cultures.

The festival features an array of activities that invite participants to explore over 30 different cultures.

Attendees can look forward to a sensory feast, with food stalls offering a diverse range of cuisines, live music performances, dance demonstrations, and interactive workshops.

In addition to the main event at The Levee, the festival will transform Maitland into a hub of activity with the lead-up to the festival including lighting installations, lantern-making sessions, and dance and drum workshops, engaging the community and building excitement for the weekend festivities.

The Riverlights Festival is happening on 12 October, with Adams dinner happening the night before at Maitland Town Hall on Friday 11 October. For more information visit
