September 19, 1979 is a date that will forever live in infamy here in Newcastle.
That was the date when this town came to national attention thanks to the Star Hotel riot that saw the local constabulary clash with punters in a spectacular fracas, and iconic Oz rockers cold Chisel write a song about the event.
Well, the venue is gearing up to commemorate the riot with three days of memory-lane worthy activities.
The commemoration kicks off on Thursday 19 September with happy hour prices all day!
If that wasn’t enough, you can also pick up tinnies at 1979 prices while original Star girl Glenda Jackson performing live from 6pm.
The kitchen will also be pumping out ‘Chisel’ food specials the speedy Star lunch meu will be on offer from 11.30am to 3pm.
The fun continues on Friday with more 1979-priced tinnies food specials and he Speedy Star lunch menu, but with a few worthwhile additions.
While Heroes, the legendary Newy rockers who were on stage that infamous night are unavailable, the tunes will be provided by rockers Mojo who will be ripping through the classics from 7.30pm.
You will also have the change to walk down memory lane with Star publicans circa 1979 Don and Lesley Graham who will be on hand for a chinwag and to answer questions about that fateful night.
The anniversary will be rounded out on Saturday 21 September with the dual piano attack of Keyes On King from 8.30pm.
