Reece Mastin back in Newcastle

Australia’s young rock ‘n roll heartthrob, Reece Mastin, is coming back to Newcastle as part of his Wolf in the Woods Tour playing Panthers on Friday September 26.

This will be the first time Reece has undertaken a major tour of Australia since December, 2012, and these shows promise to be “loud, hot and real”. The Wolf in the Woods shows will feature new material from Reece’s as yet untitled album, due later this year, with intimate, rock venues around the country.

We got a chance to have a quick chat to Reece about his upcoming show and being a teen heart throb.

Do you control your own social media like Twitter and Facebook or do you pay someone to handle it?

Yes I do it’s a great way for me to stay connected to the fans 🙂

What’s it like to be labelled as a ‘heart throb’?

I didn’t know I was labelled so I wouldn’t know hahaha.

How’s life as part of the big Sony family?

 Couldn’t be better 😉

Film clips, recording or playing live. What’s your favourite part of the business?

They’re so different and each has its ups and downs but the recording and the live stuff is definitely top of the pile.

Do you regret not finishing high school?

Nah, I was fortunate enough to make a career doing what I love. Music is what I want to do for the rest of my life… hopefully I don’t need a fall back haha.

What advice would you give to young artists heading down the path of the TV singing contest?

Sing what you want to sing and be who you really are. The audience smells a poser from a mile away.

What do you think about people (illegally) sharing music online for free?

With today’s technology , it’s easy for illegally download music. I personally prefer to buy the records I love. It’s the best way to show your support. That and coming to the live shows.

You’ve won two ARIA awards, but is there an award you really want that you’re yet to receive?

 The Brownlow

Have you ever spent any time in Newcastle before and besides the show have you got any plans for your time in the city?

I’ve been there a few times to play shows and come meet the fans. It’s such a busy tour, I probably won’t have much time but I’ll always squeeze in a beer and a walk around the city. And maybe go to some music stores 🙂

The 18-date tour will take in all mainland capital cities and many regional hubs including first time shows in Renmark, Whyalla and Mount Gambier in Reece’s home state of South Australia.

“If you’ve never come to a show before, this is the one you’ve been waiting for,” Reece said. “And if you thought the last show was good, we have the next level for you!”

He added, “We’re traveling to places we haven’t been in a while and I can’t wait to see everyone again. If you love your music live and loud, then the Wolf in the Woods shows will definitely have you rocking!”

Reece Mastin burst into the Australian consciousness in late 2011 after winning X-Factor. His debut album went double Platinum and hit #1 as well as three consecutive singles that all worked their way into the Top 5 of the ARIA charts. What sets Reece apart from many of his contemporaries is that he is a genuinely talented musician – he’s been writing songs and playing the guitar since he was 12 and is heavily involved in the direction of his music.

Fresh off their Australian and US tours supporting P!nk, New York based power trio The Kin, will be bringing their constant hooks, affinity for the shock-factor and undeniable charisma back to Australia when they open all shows on the Wolf in the Woods Tour.
