PUFFS AT THE PLAYHOUSE: The Very Popular Theatre Company’s potty new production

Attention POTTERphiliacs. While you know the story of a certain wizard who went to a certain Wizard School and conquered evil, you don’t know this story . . .

Puffs, which opens at the Civic Playhouse next week, takes a new look at the familiar adventure from the perspective of three new potential magical heroes.

It’s a clever and inventive play, which never goes more than a minute without a laugh, earning it rave reviews from around the world, including glowing praise from The New York Times.

This is the first time the production has been staged in Newcastle and Director Daniel Stoddart promises audiences a hilarious and heartfelt journey which takes the classic story to new places.

One of the show’s stars, Hit 106.9 Breakfast radio host, Nick Allen-Ducat,  takes on the role of the charming yet flawed, Cedric Diggory.

“I saw Puffs in Melbourne and loved it,” Nick said.

“When I saw the opportunity to audition for such a good production, I knew it was the right project to dust off the theatre shoes and jump back in.

“It’s fast-paced, very funny and the cast is so talented, I’m in awe of them every rehearsal.

“I think people will love the magical place it takes them to. Their inner child will certainly come out with loud roars of laughter. Also, if you love badgers you will love this. And who doesn’t love a badger?”.

While the show is recommended for wizards and witches high school age and older, The Very Popular Theatre Co is running two very special performances for younger wizards (see the schedule below).

The matinee performance on 7 May is also very special, with all profits going to the Lismore Flood Appeal.

Puffs opens at the Civic Playhouse in Newcastle on Friday 6 May and goes through until Saturday 14 May.
