$50,000 cash prize for songwriters up for grabs

The 2021 Vanda & Young Global Songwriting Competition is now open and a first-place cash prize of $50,000 is up for grabs!

The competition is open to songwriters of all genres and career stages, from anywhere in the world with prizes courtesy of Australasian music rights management organisation APRA AMCOS, Alberts and Sony Music Publishing.

Named after the iconic songwriters and founding members of The Easybeats, Harry Vanda and the late George Young, the long-running competition has honoured a range of songwriting talent includingThelma Plum who took out the top spot in 2020 for theempowering anthemBetter in Blak.

Other winners of the competition include Matt Corby and Dann Hume, Amy Shark, Gretta Ray, Husky Gawenda, Isabella Manfredi, Kimbra and Megan Washington.

There are also some inspiring cash prizes for therunners-up including $10,000 for second place (courtesy Banki Haddock Fiora) and $5,000 (courtesy Aon) for third place.

All entry fees go to support Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Australia who use creative music therapy to deliver significant and quantifiable benefits to children and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities, trauma, mental health problems, depression and medical illnesses, as well as learning, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
