It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Newcastle songwriter Anousha Victoire, but thankfully that balance has been redressed with the release of her stunning new single Precious Things To Me.
After a string of EPs – Off My Skin, Anousha Victoire Live, and Icarus in the early noughties, Anousha stepped back from songwriting to focus on her career and musical theatre, but it seems the lure of her craft was too strong to ignore.
The first fruit of those reinvigorated labours is Precious Things To Me is a sweetly lilting folk number that Anousha said the track was about taking time out to appreciate the precious things in life.
“Written in the aftermath of prolonged illness where even simple everyday moments with loved ones seem so precious, against a backdrop of rising uncertainty about our collective future,” she said.
“A bicycle journey after summer rain, a beach wander, a homecoming. A question for today pondered over an honest and dripping rhythm section featuring large warm raindrops from the flugelhorn. Perfectly distilled into the quintessential Australian road trip song.”
The track is the first single off Anousha’s soon-to-be-released debut album which will also feature some new arrangements of fan faves as well as a host of new tracks inspired by chance meetings, travels and the realities of domestic life.
The album was engineered and co-produced by Robbie Long at his Funky Lizard Studios and features a stellar cast of musicians including violinist Skye Harrison.
Catch Anousha Victoire when she performs with Sean McGinty and Helena Kitley at the Hamilton Station Hotel on Sunday 16 February.
