PLEDGE A NIGHT: You can help families stay together at Ronald McDonald House

Every night this month up to 23 families from across Regional NSW will need a home away from homeso they can be near their seriously ill child in hospital. And that home will be found at Ronald McDonald House.

This month, supported by Sleapy’s Foundation, we’re working with Ronald McDonald House to encourage you to give the gift of togetherness by pledging a night.

For just $135 you can provide one night of accommodation for a family who has a child in hospital.

By pledging to pay for a night of accommodation you’ll be helping families like Dazelle’s, who earlier this year had to be far from home to receive a bone marrow transplant, stay together.

With COVID still a major concern in the community, onlyDazelle’s Mum, Dinah could stay with her while she underwent this lifesaving treatment.

WhileDazelle was away receiving care, Josh, Daz’s Dad, was back home in Quirindi with her brothers and sisters. He would have loved to be with his wife, by Daz’s bedside while she fought for her life.

Last month they arrived at Ronald McDonald House Newcastle for Daz to continue treatment at John Hunter Children’s Hospital. After six months apart, Josh, Dinah and Daz were finally together. And when families are together, they cope better.

During the family’s stay, Josh painted this amazing artwork called The Gathering Of My Family (Yorta Yorta).

Josh’s artwork called The Gathering Of My Family (Yorta Yorta)

“The painting depicts the story of the Peters’ family where we are gathered at the waterhole while our ancestors watch over and guide us, and our totem the long neck turtle is with us,”Josh said.

“To our people, the waterhole brings new life and is the meeting point where all will meet. For us, Ronald McDonald Newcastle has been the families meeting point to eat, sleep and feel loved to grow and recover into good health.”

The artwork is now proudly displayed at Ronald McDonald House Newcastle.

You can now “Pledge a Night” and give the gift of togetherness to families when they need it most. $135 can provide one nights’ accommodation so families can be near their seriously ill child in hospital.
