Oh happy day! Another long weekend is almost upon us.
The October long weekend is one of the most glorious given that it occurs at the onset of spring and presents a welcome opportunity for three full days of unabashed ‘you’ time.
But how to fill in those glorious extra hours? Should you mow the lawn or get started on some spring cleaning? Well, probably, but nuts to that because there is a literal tonne of great stuff to do in our part of the world.
To help you along, here are our suggestions for some great ways to occupy your time over the long weekend, but for a more comprehensive deep dive, check out our gig and event guide!
For the Kids
Interactive Lego Workshops – Charlestown Square
If your little ones are budding builders then these interactive LEGO Workshops could be just the ticket. Each workshop runs for 15 minutes and each child will receive their own FREE LEGO Mini Build Kit valued at $12 to create on the day.
Limited slots are available across the long weekend and bookings are essential. Head here for more into and to book now!
For the Sport Tragics
NRL Finals – Knights V Rabbitohs – Pretty much every pub in Newy
Sunday 4 October
The October long weekend also means the pointy end of the NRL season and lo and behold, the Knights have a finals berth.
After a bumper weekend of finals action, our Knights will take on the Bunnies on Sunday, kicking off at 4pm.
It’s the Knight’s first finals appearance since 2013 so get down to your local and yell at the TV in support which this writer will more than likely.
For the Gig Pigs
Nick Raschke – The Wickham Park Hotel
Saturday 3 October
Obviously, with COVID still bothering us with monotonous regularity, gigs are relatively few and far between in 2020.
But thankfully there are venues, like the Wicko well and truly flying the live music flag!
Human jukebox and Newy fretmaster Nick Raschke made quite the impression with his awesome awesome series of Lockdown Songs.
Now you can catch the man himself in the flesh and anyone who has seen this guy do his thing on stage would know he is a force to be reckoned with. There are bound to be more than a few musical surprises in this set!
For the Meat Lover
Mexican Churrfiesta – Meet
Friday 2 -Sunday 4 October
There ain’t no fiesta like a Mexican Churrfiesta and the good folks at Darby Street eatery Meet have definitely got you covered.
This festival of flavour is a foodie’s delight. For just $59 per person you can enjoy nine, yes NINE cuts of meat, nine sides, two desserts and lashings of Mexican-inspired cocktails.
Obviously bookings are essential for this one so head here now to sort yours out.
