It’s an announcement that Powderfinger fans have been waiting for a decade.
And now the iconic Brisbane rockers will reform, next Saturday night, for a special one-off performance on their YouTube Channel.
The gig, dubbed One Night Lonely, will see members Bernard Fanning, Darren Middleton, Ian Haug, Jon Coghill and John Collins will stream an exclusive set from their respective home studios.
Kicking off at 7pm on Saturday 23 May, the set will feature a medley of Powderfinger’s biggest hist including My Happiness, These Days, Pick You Up and Sunsets.
It’s for a good cause, too with funds raised on the night going to Beyond Blue and music industry charity Support Act.
“The five of us have been meeting regularly over the past few months to organise some Odyssey Number Five anniversary releases,” the band said in a statement.
“The idea came up of playing together again in this unusual format which we all thought would be fun. The past few months have been a very strange time for us all and difficult days for many.
“We really just want to bring a smile to some people’s faces and along the way raise some funds to help our music industry mates and people who are currently experiencing mental health issues.”
While there’s no official word on any post-One Night Lonely from the Brisbane hitmakers, this gig is exciting news for fans with the band last taking to the stage on their Sunsets Farewell tour in 2010.
