NOW SHOWING: Cinema classics on the big screen!

Local cinemas are dusting off some absolute classics at the moment and we couldn’t think of a better reason to head back to movies.

From family-friendly masterpieces to films that defined their genres – seeing classic cinema on the big screen reminds us of why we first fell in love with the movies and the magic that happens in the theatre when the lights go down.

Below you’ll find just three of the cinema classics that are currently screening in local theatres and links to find out when they’re playing.

Are you’re celebrating a little Christmas in July? Well, look no further! Spend a few hours at Event Cinemas with John McClane, played by Bruce Willis, as he fights to save his wife who has been taken hostage by German terrorist Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman) inside Nakatomi Plaza.

Hoyts Cinema is screening some absolute silver screen classics at the moment. From Beauty and the Beast, The Greatest Showman and Alien to this Jim Henson & George Lucas masterpiece. Take a walk down memory lane, or introduce yourself – or your kids – to the wonders of this family-friendly classic, with 16-year-old Sarah Williams, the Goblin King and all the other characters of The Labyrinth.

Unfortunately, no one can be told what The Matrix is. You’ll have to see it for yourself. So off you pop to Reading Cinemas to see it on the big screen! The Trilogy of films, starring Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss and our very own Hugo Weaving, will screen over three nights on the big screen in Charlestown and it really is something best enjoyed with the cinema surround sound and a box of buttery, movie popcorn.
