Nobbys Lighthouse is open for the Supercars event weekend with a special family-friendly zone where you don’t need a supercars pass to get in.
“Newcastle Now will transform the grounds into an outdoor livesite with a big screen to show the race, live music, and food by local traders Nan’s Dumplings, Bao Brothers, and Vinyl Coffee House,” said Michael Neilson, Executive Manager Newcastle Now.
“We will open the site from 11am – 3:30pm on Friday and 11am – 6pm on Saturday and Sunday. Many of our volunteer City Ambassadors have offered to assist so we can open Newcastle’s much loved icon to the thousands of visitors in town for the Supercars event.”
“It’s also an opportunity for locals to come into Newcastle’s East End and experience the atmosphere without having a race ticket.”
Public access is an approximate 35-minute walk and visitors are encouraged to wear walking shoes, sunscreen and a hat. Access is from King Edward Park along the Bathers Way as it winds around the coast from Newcastle Beach to Nobbys Beach. From here you can head along the Breakwall and up the hill to the Lighthouse site.
Supercars pass holders are also welcome to visit the Lighthouse site and can exit the race precinct at Gate 6 near Nobbys Beach. This walk will take approximately 10-minutes.
There is a small $5 entry fee (cash only) with kids under 12 years free. Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic rug and pull up a piece of grass and enjoy the spectacular 360-degree views.
