Ride Along is back with beer, BBQ, bikes, and a dash of pub history!

Following a successful first run back in. May, Newy Rides‘ bespoke Ride Along Series is back for what promises to be a ‘meaty’ experience.

That’s because the next event will be hosted by Robert and Randi Thraves from Islington-based Texas-style BBQ haunt Smokin Hot ‘n’ Saucy.

And if a low and slow meaty feast isn’t enough to pique your palate, what about lashings of craft beer courtesy of Carrington-based brew-masters Styx Brewery, and insight into Newcastle’s blue-collar pub history with author and historian Ed Tonks? Well, you’ve got a jam-packed day out!

“I’m in awe of the level of dedication and quality of product that both Smokin’ Hot ‘n’ Saucy and Styx Brewery do every day. Getting to know both businesses over the last six months has been a real treat – they have the best origin stories,” Newy Rides’ Ben Ogden said.

“I met Ed on a rainy December day when he took myself and my Dad on a walk around the suburbs, giving us amazing insight into the city’s drinking culture, architecture and pubs of days gone by. I wish it was around happy hour so I could’ve shouted him a beer – now I’ll get my chance.”

The experience starts with riders meeting at a designated spot where everyone is introduced, letting the day unfold with a specially curated menu, including beer tastings, riding onwards to each unique stop.

The experience does not encourage excessive consumption, with tastings closely monitored to ensure safe riding at all times.

“This one sings to a few different interests especially if you want to learn more about the beer-making process or want to steal Rob Thraves’ secrets from the BBQ pit,” Ben said.

“The real icing on the cake with this one is Ed Tonks – you will feel more connected to Newy than ever after spending some time with him.”

Ride Along: Smokin’ Hot ‘n’ Saucy x Styx Brewery x Ed Tonks is on Saturday 28 August. Head here for tickets and more information, but get in. quick as spaces are very limited.
