After wowing all and sundry as the touring vocalist for the likes of Peking Duk and Flight Facilities, Newcastle’s The Baroness has struck out on her own with a banging new single.
Also known as Michaela Baranov, the undeniable talent’s first sonic cab off the rank is Another Day – an unashamed dance-floor filler (well, if there were dance floors to be filled right now) imbued with a palpable positivity that is just as infectious as those huge beats and pop hooks.
“It’s so exciting to have the song out finally because it had been delayed a couple of times, but I never in a million years imagined that it would be released during a time like this,” she told Newcastle Live.
“Although it is, in a way, good timing because the song is all about living each day as it comes and living life with passion and I think we all could use some of that positivity right now.”

That positivity is also illustrated sonically with the song’s high energy vibe almost compelling listeners to get up off of that thang and dance ’til you feel better.
“I really wanted it to be impossible not to want to dance to this one,” The Baroness said.”
“I’m a huge fan of Whitney Houston and one of the things I wanted to achieve with Another Day was for it to have that same infectious vibe as I Want To Dance With Somebody,”
While this is one song definitely directing people to turn that frown upside down, its creation, the genesis of which happening during power walking sessions, came from a more sombre place.
“I wrote it about a year ago at a time when I felt like I was kind of going through a rut,” she said.
“You know what they say – artists make their best work in their darkest times. But for me, when I’m sad I tend to write happy songs.”
No stranger to touring, The Baroness has been making quite a name for herself as the official touring vocalist for Flight Facilities and Peking Duk.
She was front and centre, in front of 75,000 people for the latter’s recent Fire Fight benefit gig slot – an experience that still has the singer pinching herself.
“That was so surreal,” she said. “I’ve done some pretty big shows with those guys over the three years I’ve been with them, but this was a whole new level being on live TV and the reason everyone was there. It was just so, so speacial.
“Honestly there was that much adrenaline coursing through me I had no time to process the emotion of it all until much later.
“The enormity of it hit us all about an hour after we played – I just couldn’t stop screaming.”
The Baroness is using the current lockdown to her advantage, taking time in her Newcastle home-studio to put the finishing touches on her debut album. wile revealing that there are plans to drop two more singles in the near future.
