Newcastle duo Tailgate Drive has picked up the inaugural Rob Potts Tribute CMC new artist of the year award at last night’s Country Music Channel Awards on the Gold Coast.
The debut single from Tailgate Drive featuring Troy Kemp (formerly of McAlister Kemp) and Damien Baguley (The Viper Creek Band) only dropped a few months ago and since then the duo has been winning over fans from every stage they play.

The first Rob Potts Tribute award was a special one for the boys to win too. Rob Potts was a longtime member of the Country Music Association and a Chairman of the CMA International Committee. His company Rob Potts Entertainment Edge was at the centre of bringing U.S. Country superstars to the Australian market and, with Chugg Entertainment, he started the CMC Rocks festival which in 2016 became Australia’s first sold-out country music festival in history. Rob was also the longtime manager of Newcastle’s Morgan Evans.
It’s a big one for the boys in Tailgate Drive and we can only imagine what’s to come.
