Newcastle turns on the lights!

Newcastle’s iconic Civic Park fountain has been transformed into a festive display with five floating Christmas trees that sparkle with nearly 10,000 lights.

Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes says it is a joyous time of year and Newcastle, as one of Australia’s largest cities, now has a fabulous display which will attract locals and visitors alike.

“Part of our Newcastle 2030 vision is to create vibrant and activated public places that encourage social interaction and inclusion as well as opportunities for locals and visitors to discover our beautiful city. Events and installations in public places are a key way of achieving this vision,” she said.

Thousands of people enjoyed the Christmas in Civic Park event on Friday 4 December 2015. The crowd was entertained by the Newcastle Youth Orchestra and the Australian Army Band Newcastle.
