The Newcastle Toy Run will kick off their 2024 campaign with a Motorcycle Show and Shine event at the at The Station this month.

Hosted by Bikers for Kids, this family-friendly event will feature an impressive array of motorcycles, food, drinks, and plenty of activities for all ages. The gathering aims to bring the community together while raising awareness and collecting donations for families in need throughout the Hunter Region.

The event marks the start of the 47th annual Newcastle Toy Run appeal, the longest-running event of its kind in Australia. Over the past three decades, the appeal has contributed over $500,000 worth of toys and donations to The Salvation Army Hunter Christmas Appeal.

Last yearโ€™s launch event saw 80 motorcycles on display and attracted around 2,000 visitors throughout the day, and this yearโ€™s event is expected to be even bigger.

The Toy Run, which will culminate in December, is known for bringing motorcyclists, local businesses, and the general public together in a show of solidarity to support The Salvation Armyโ€™s Christmas Appeal. Funds and toy donations collected during the event will go toward helping disadvantaged children and families during the holiday season.

“Christmas can be a stressful time of year for many people, especially parents and carers,” Bikers for Kids chairman, Daryn Young said.

“Knowing we have the ability to help so many children throughout the Hunter Region who are in need is an absolute rush. Itโ€™s why we keep doing what we are doing.”

This yearโ€™s Toy Run will reach its grand finale on 1 December 2024, with a massive ride finishing at Connolly Park, Carrington. The day will include a donation point for unwrapped gifts, live entertainment, food and drink stalls, and free rides for children. Riders are encouraged to register early on the official website, and community members can also donate online to support this iconic event and its mission to spread holiday cheer.
