Newcastle roller derby challenges the dark side

Newcastle Roller Derby League will take to the track at The Newcastle Showground Exhibition Centre on Saturday 6th of September for another thrilling double header game.

The event will see the league face two teams from Sydney league the South Side Derby Dolls, and follows on from last month’s home victory against the Brisbane City Rollers. The South Side Derby Dolls, also known as S2D2, are a Star Wars themed league based in Sydney’s south- west suburbs.

Saturday’s bout will open with Newcastle B-team The Star Riots coming up against S2D2’s ‘The Empire’, before representative squad The Dockyard Dames take on ‘The Force’. Both games are part of a number of qualifying bouts required for all four teams to compete in the upcoming Eastern Region Roller Derby tournament Smackdown, which will be held on The Central Coast over the October long weekend.The Tournament will be attended by more than 20 teams from leagues located in eastern New South Wales.

Tickets for Saturday’s game can be purchased from or at the door on the day. Doors will open at 5pm for a 5:30 start.
