Swamplesque is bringing its ogre-inspired burlesque chaos to Newcastle, landing at the Civic Theatre in May for a wildly adults-only parody event.
The award-winning production has built a cult following across the country, turning the world of Shrek upside down and shaking it out in a glitter-drenched, adults-only spectacle.
Known for its five-star reviews and unashamedly unhinged humour, Swamplesque arrives as a full-throttle blend of burlesque, drag, circus and loaded nostalgia, but strictly for grown-ups willing to watch their childhood fairytales misbehave.
The show leans into the absurd from the moment the spotlight hits its lead ogre in a sheer negligee.
What unfolds is a fever dream of iconic characters reimagined for maximum chaos: Shrek stripping to All Star, Pinocchio swinging from Beyoncé to Baby Got Back, and Lord Farquaad and Gingy taking turns delivering hilariously off-kilter routines.
Every act is designed to subvert expectations, heighten the ridiculousness and keep the audience cheering for more.
Much of Swamplesque’s appeal lies in its commitment to spectacle. Burlesque-style striptease, drag theatrics, powerhouse vocals and circus-infused stagecraft collide under loud music, haze, and strobe lighting.
The show is cheeky, irreverent and gleefully self-aware, an invitation to embrace camp, chaos and the unexpected with no apology and plenty of glitter.
The cast behind the mayhem features some of Australia’s most electrifying performers, including Trigger Happy, Tash York, Henny Spaghetti, Rainbow, Nolens Volens, Isis Avis Loren, Charlie Love and Memphis Mae.
Between international accolades, show-stopping cabaret credentials and years of experience shaping the nation’s burlesque landscape, the ensemble promises a night that is equal parts outrageous and expertly crafted.
Swamplesque hits the Civic Theatre Newcastle on Sunday, 3 May 2026 at 6pm. The show runs for approximately 70 minutes with no interval and is strictly 18+ due to strong language, sexual themes and burlesque nudity. Tickets are on sale now via civictheatrenewcastle.com.au.
