Newcastle has officially been named the sixth most liveable city in Australia, according to the latest Property Council of Australia survey… And yes, we ranked higher than Sydney!
Scoring 62.9 out of 100, Newcastle was praised by locals for its vibrant recreational offerings and access to activities, with respondents highlighting the city’s growing cultural scene, beaches, and community events as standout features.
So what’s holding us back?
While Novocastrians clearly love their lifestyle, the survey also revealed some ongoing concerns. Key areas that dragged Newcastle’s score down included:
Cleanliness and pollution: Many residents expressed frustration with litter, air quality, and the general upkeep of public spaces.
Housing affordability: Like much of the country, rising property prices and rental stress continue to impact liveability for locals.
