One For The Road Productions is bringing a literary feast to Newcastle Fringe Festival’s 10th anniversary with two original theatrical works, Words, Words, Words and The Understudies.

As a celebration of storytelling, literature, and the unpredictable nature of performance, these productions promise audiences a mix of thought-provoking drama and comedic chaos.

Words, Words, Words is a trio of one-act plays by Newcastle playwrights Bronte Carrigan and Nat Newman. Exploring the relationships between writers, readers, and publishers, this work delves into the magic and potential danger of words.

Featuring an award-winning cast of local performers, it invites audiences to reflect on their own experiences with books: the ones that shaped them, moved them, and even frightened them.

On a lighter note, The Understudies offers a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud comedy penned by Liz Vassilacos and Nat Newman. Following two understudies thrust into the spotlight at the prestigious Shakespeare festival The Bard Unleashed, this production is a whirlwind of missed cues, costume malfunctions, and hilarious stage mishaps.

With only themselves to rely on, Zoe and Mack must juggle multiple roles and navigate theatrical chaos. Founded in 2023 by Nat Newman and Bron Sartori, One For The Road Productions is quickly making its mark on Newcastle’s independent theatre scene.

Words, Words, Words will be performed on March 20, 22, and 23, while The Understudies takes the stage on March 28, 29, and 30, all at The Dungeon in Adamstown Heights. Tickets are available through the Newcastle Fringe Festival website.
