It’s the long-running culture fest that was unceremoniously cancelled this year just two days out from opening.
But never fear, because the Newcastle Fringe Festival is returning in 2021 and it’s shaping up to be bigger and better than ever!
In fact, the 2021 iteration will feature more than 100 events, and 40-plus artists performing across 10 venues!
And that’s a LOT of culture!
The Fringe team has been busy creating a program that really delivers on support
of the arts and individual artists. They’ve extended the art genres that usually apply
to Fringe to now include the following new initiatives:
- Fringe for Families @ The Station – a weekend of family-friendly fun that will
include markets, artist installations and performances and workshops for all
- Fringe Film Festival @ Event Cinemas Kotara;
- Visual art exhibition @ Watt Space Gallery;
- A series of workshops run by artists or for artist development – including
- workshops for kids and adults; and
- Streaming on-demand from the last day of the festival for one week – #bingethefringe
- Fringe @ Lizottes – 3 nights of fringe mayhem and fun with tickets on sale now!
Here are just a couple things happening at Lizotte’s that are sure to be Fringe Fest highlights.
Wine Mums: Live. Laugh. Love.
Cheaper than therapy, and much funnier, Live. Love. Laugh. is a stunning feat of character comedy and improvisation, guaranteed to have you in stitches.
As recent empty-nesters, Jan and Marie suddenly have a lot of time on their hands and no one to listen to their unsolicited constructive criticism. They’re more than just their statement glasses and chunky necklaces – they’ve got a lot of sage advice to generously dole out, so be ready for it!
If you have love, sex and relationship problems, Jan and Marie are here to help. Pop a couple of ice cubes in a pinot and put the telly on mute, because quite frankly, you look like you could use a few pearls of wisdom.
Unplanned Melodies Cabaret
Join a night of saucy fun and hilarious tunes as Unplanned Melodies improv troupe present Unplanned Cabaret. After multiple standing ovations at Secret Garden Festival 2019, and a sell-out crowd at the Australian Improv Festival, Sydney’s premier musical improv troupe is bringing their infectious energy, hilarity, silliness and sheer brilliance to Newcastle.
Be amazed as an entirely original musical extravaganza is crafted and composed before your\very ears. Prepare for songs that have never been heard before to get stuck in your head, leaving you clicking your fingers and humming all the way home.
The remaining program running across such venues as The Royal Exchange, The
Carrington Bowling Club, WEA CAS, Uniting Church Adamstown & The Dungeon,
Base, Gallipoli Club, The Grand Hotel and The Station will go on sale before
The Newcastle Fringe Festival is on from Wednesday 17 to Sunday 21 March 2021. Head here for more information.
