Remember that episode of The Simpsons in which Homer attends the Chilli Cook-Off only to find himself on a shamanistic quest to find true enlightenment?

Well, if you get on down to The Station this month, you too may find your spirit animal at the Newcastle Chilli Festival.

While you may not find the Guatemalan Insanity Peppers that Homer imbibed, this hottest fest in town will feature more chilli-infused food and chilli products than you can poke a stick at.

But if you’re palate is not a friend of the fire, there will be plenty of food trucks on the day serving fare more suitable to your tender taste buds.

Oh, and there will also be a range of wine and beer available to help cope with the oral inferno you are about to enter.

Add to that live music and a kids’ zone to keep the little chillis amused and you have a great day out for the whole family!

One of the centrepieces of the day, however, is sure to be the Chilli Eating Competition.

Organisers are asking local businesses to nominate a chilli eating freak from their workplace to step up to the plate all for a good cause.

Entry into the competition is $200 with all proceeds going to Soul Cafe which provides hundreds of free meals each week to highly disadvantaged members of our community.

So, get those palates prepared (just don’t go lining your mouth with wax like Homer did), and get to The Station on Sunday 28 July from 9am to 5pm.

Businesses interested in entering the Chilli Eating Competition should get in contact via the Newcastle Chilli Festival Facebook page.
