Newcastle Business Women takes out AusMumpreneur award

Newcastle businesses 5 Little Bears has taken out a stack of honours at this year’s AusMumpreneur awards

Leanne Murner, the founder of the business, placed first in the AusMumpreneur Business Pivot Award, first as AusMumpreneur Author of the Year and first for AusMumpreneur Sustainable Product Award.

The local Mumpreneur also placed second for The Women’s Business School Student of the Year and third for the AusMumpreneur Making a Difference in Education Award.

5 Little Bears sells a range of timber educational and sensory resources with an emphasis on Australian themes. Leanne’s first business, Personalised Keepsakes, became the parent of 5 Little Bears when covid hit. But the Keanne says that one may not have existed without the other.

“My main business was servicing the wedding industry that was closed due to Covid, 5 Little Bears was just at startup only selling to early childhood market. We found ourselves selling to parents who were home-schooling and needing products to entertain their children why in lockdown,” Leanne says.

“To overcome so many hurdles to experience new opportunities in such a short time I am so grateful for the success that keeps coming! It has been such an honour to be recognised for all my hard work and determination.”

Leanne is also a children’s book author, writing books inspired by her adventurous boys.

“Having such a huge demand for Australian made and Australian themed I found myself also becoming an Author producing books teaching children about Australia.”

The books take readers on a journey of Australian native bush discovery with books that are full of facts about native plants, indigenous culture and wildlife.

On top of everything else she’s doing Leanne also find time to co-write Back Yourself which is an inspiring guide for women in business. Combining the inspirational stories and expert advice of 27 women in business sharing life-changing stories about what can happen when you learn to back yourself.
