Following on from their brilliant 2018 debut Sanctuary,Magpie Diaries are back with a new single.
Set to drop on July 17, Go Anywhere is an epic, meandering slow burn of a tune that recalls the likes of Neil Young, Flaming Lips, Silver Jews and even a little bit of the E Street Band.
The band describe the song as “a sojourn, a moment of reflection, an escape into a world of beauty and longing. Making you want to be right here, right now.”
While the main influence, lyrically, was the hefty touring schedule the band underwent following the release of Sanctuary and the disconnectedness that can come with long stretches on the road, the sentiment, in particular, the hook “Don’t want to go anywhere” bears an uncanny relevance to current global events.

“Like it was a moment of unforeseen foresight into this somewhat predictable future we’re rolling into,” Magpie said.
“The song has many faces, and you can make of it what you want, bend your understanding so you can feel what I feel every time I hear the song.”
With the possibility of touring still a way off yet, Magpie certainly isn’t resting on his laurels.
Aside from preparing for the birth of his first child with wife [Magpie Diaries drummer] Jess Hartigan, Magpie has been busy converting his Dashville HQ into a studio where he has bunkered down to work on tunes for the next record.
“Winter can really be a tough period when it gets cold and the days are short, darkness is all around.,” he said.
“But with my only true certainty being our impending first child, I feel like I’ve been able to enjoy this forced shut down for what it really means. Subsequently, I feel like I’ve hit a bit of a purple patch with songwriting.”
Go Anywhere will be available on all streaming platforms on July 17.
